[edit] Basic Speed Law (CA)
California's Basic Speed Law requires drivers to "No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property."

- The left turn lane is usually considered a passing lane (fast lane) and should be reserved for use for passing slower vehicles
- Trucks and other slower vehicles should stay toward the right-most lanes

- Be courteous, allow drivers to merge and use hand signals to indicate actions or directions to other drivers
- Stay off your cellular phone or text messages when you drive
- Don't put on makeup or perform other complicated tasks while you drive
